Things I should know...

I'm feeling a bit out of touch. Unless something is in the headlines on Yahoo for the 30 seconds that I look at it, I am totally unaware. Last time I called Stateside, I was informed that you had snapped out of Daylight Savings Time. Whoops.

So I'd like to have a forum on things you think I need to know. Who won the World's Series? Is there a hurricane heading for me?

Thanks for the info...

The White Sox broke their streak and won the World Series. No hurricanes or other natural disasters that I am aware of are heading your way, and you know that I would be the one to know such a thing! We did discuss, at the Wine Experience last night, the bird flu. Everyone there decided that you should avoid poultry. Oh yeah, you only know 2 of the people, but everyone knows about you and your quest. So, a couple of cosmopolitans later, I decided that the bird flu is one of those things that the media has blown out of proportion...any thoughts?

Just packing up to head to the GA in St Louis. I have everything in order and am sure that I have packed more for my 3 day weekend than you have for your 10 month excursion!!! (Ya never know what shoes to take!) I am picking Becky U and Kriss R up around 1 ish and we will be off for a drunken, albeit, informative weekend. I am sure that your name will come up in conversation along the drive, hope you don't mind.

Have a great weekend!!!

Enjoy the dogs!

another bit of information: the postal system between China and the U.S> seems to be working fine: we've received your Tiananman Square postcard, thanx! (Eric won't see it till Monday tho, teehee!)

Jason Kneer says: (in a drunken stupor) - tho his wife would like to point out that no one says much of anything in an actual stupor -

"They're are no hurricanes in the Pacific; only typhoons!" "And I can talk in a drunken stupor because I am unique!!"

And personally, I have to ask Roxy the following: How is it that it took you a couple of cosmopolitans to figure out that the media is blowing the pandemic flu thing out of proportion??? There is almost NO way this will have any appreciable effect on you and me. Sure, we can discuss the REMOTE possibility of this but come ON! It's even a remote possibility in Vietnam and China, let alone here. The odds are seriously against it becoming a problem and the White House and the media have simply decided we can all be distracted by a little more fear.

I'm putting away the soap box now and cracking another beer. This is my current favorite pet peev. The bird flu thing is everywhere, and yet, in fact, it is No Where.

Wherever you are in the world, Marcia, we miss you and hope you are well. Eat good food and drink good beer!

Bird flu: There was a LOT of awareness of bird flu in Hong Kong. I can't really say how much awareness there was in Mainland China, as I wouldn't have understood the awareness if it hit me in the head. They warn people not to come in contact with poultry, and wash your hands, etc. It was big news when Bush announced his inititive.

The thing to understand is that there are chickens EVERYWHERE. I am usually awoken by a rooster in the morning. There are chickens where I am staying. They seem to be tied up, however. No, I do not play with them...

There really seems to be nothing here in Bali from a public health perspective, even though Jakarta has seen human cases. It may be present in the Indonesian speaking media, but not in the English. It does seem to be in the news, just not the "here is what you should do" commercials I saw in Hong Kong.
